Whole trees are secured on banks pointing upstream to catch and store sediment on eroded banks. Log barbs are placed on the channel bottom and dug into the bank. Barbs point upstream to deflect flow away from the banks, (water always flows perpendicular to the log) establishing a new thalweg (the deepest part of the stream flow). Banks are covered with jute net, seeded and planted in the late fall.
