Whole trees are secured on banks pointing upstream to catch and store sediment on eroded banks. Whole trees are secured on banks pointing upstream to catch and store sediment on eroded banks. Log barbs are placed on the channel bottom and dug into the bank. Barbs point upstream to deflect flow away from the banks, establishing a new thalweg (the deepest part of the stream flow).
